Deepen your experience of the natural world through close looking and reflection with artist Michelle Antonisse. We will learn the history and methodologies of field journaling (recorded observations of nature), and experiment with our own practice through facilitated and open ended exercises. There will be informational lectures, sketching lessons, group activities, a field trip to oberve the Elephant Seals at San Simeon, evening campfires, and of course solo time in nature. Michelle Antonisse teaches at MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art), Angels Gate Cultural Center and the Norton Simon Museum. She is also a certified California Naturalist and former Artist in Residence at Camp Ocean Pines. Her own art deals with the human relationship to the natural world, the process of creating narratives and of trying to understand nonhuman stories through a human lense.
No experience as an artist or naturalist is necessary however all levels welcome. A required materials list and itinerary will be sent out to registered participants.
$350 includes 6 meals, 2 nights on-site lodging, bus to and from Elephant Seal observation space, lessons and workshops on sketching and field journaling practices.
$320 includes all the above however no on-site lodging.
A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required and the balance is due at least 30 days prior to the workshop.
